String quartet
Next Stop was originally conceived as a Cincinnati-specific public sound art piece that eventually would be installed at different locations along the Cincinnati Streetcar route. Both Tyler Niemeyer and I wrote short string quartet movements based on both the location of the streetcar stops and little musical tidbits from the The Goossens Fanfares (commissioned during the 1942-43 Cincinnati Symphony Orchestras season).
The location of the streetcar stops include:
Government Square
Fountain Square
Contemporary Arts Center
Public Library
Aronoff Center
Horseshoe Casino
Gateway Quarter
School for the Creative and Performing Arts
Music Hall
Washington Park
This project was funded by the Graduate Summer Undergraduate Mentoring Program at the University of Cincinnati in 2012.
